AM DESIGN: return to nature & original resort hotel space design

To a large extent, the significance of tourism is that we want to experience different lifestyles, so the space design of resort hotels according to local conditions has become particularly important. It is difficult to say whether humans get the inspiration to build houses from animal nesting, but the nest still has an original space type, which symbolizes safety and warmth. For this reason, the space design of resort hotels adopts such ideas. Although we have started for millions of years, we still trace them from time to time.

The nest at sossus hotel was built in Namibia's wildlife reserve. The design outside the hotel mimics the habitat of the sociable African weaver bird, which can accommodate a huge nest of hundreds of birds. It is completely separated from the power grid and has a self-sufficient water and power supply system。

The design of the resort starts with a simple hand-painted sketch. Each detail is first sketched, approved by the customer, and then built. In the process of hotel space design, great care is taken to ensure that the building can integrate into the landscape rather than the dominant landscape. The shape of the surrounding mountains, the texture of the material, the level of rock and the color of the site are taken into account.

Most of the facade of the resort is thatched with reeds harvested from northern Namibia, supported by hand bent steel frames. The walls are constructed of carefully arranged rough granite blocks, imitating the texture of the surrounding baobab trees. Some bricks and stones are handmade on site with local stones and river sand. The wood comes from local African red sandalwood and Rhodesian teak.

The larger living area helps to keep cool on hot days. In winter, the smaller bedroom can keep heat on cold nights, which is a great test of technology for the decoration design of resort hotels.

The trio chose to build most of the furniture inside, just like components in the nest, and rely on a few eye-catching parts to introduce the contemporary lifestyle. For example, the sunken lounge in the living area has become the nest Center for everyone. The decoration design of such a resort hotel makes tourists feel very immersed.

The outdoor swimming pool was placed where the original group of zebras took a dust bath, which is an acknowledgement of their existence in the area. Animals soon got used to its existence and the life around them. It is our responsibility to design the resort hotel on the basis of biological protection.
