AM DESIGN: immersive experience & hotel architectural design

Time:2022-05-30

From its birth and development to the contemporary era, hotel architecture has undergone earth shaking changes. In addition to meeting people's basic comfort experience, with the economic development and the upgrading of a new round of consumption, hotel architectural design companies have begun to pay more attention to the expansion of hotel stars and quality, so as to give customers an immersive experience.

The architectural design of the hotel faces the South Bank of the gold coast in the East, far from the noise, and has an excellent view of the sea. The other three sides are surrounded by 5-6-storey European style residential buildings, in which the site forms a hexagonal outline, with the scale and spatial form similar to the city square in a European town.

Facing this unique site, we hope to explore the living mode of the new era. The starting point of the architectural design of this resort hotel stems from our observation of contemporary cities and society. Nowadays, modern families tend to be small and individualized. The traditional family structure based on marriage or kinship is gradually disintegrating. We are moving towards an individual era. When everyone has less and less space in the city, and people begin to get tired of emphasizing "my" living style, the importance of community will be highlighted.

At the same time, with the development of network and virtual space, the value of physical space has gradually changed from providing specific use functions to meeting people's spiritual demands. The truly valuable place is a space that can combine living space, communication space and cultural space, and has a sense of comprehensive experience. In such an era, architecture needs to become a platform to provide people with opportunities to communicate with each other and regain the value of emotion.

Traditional hotel architectural design focuses on the privacy and independence of rooms, and the hotel space is exclusive and static. This time, we hope to endow the hotel with more sense of community and experience. In an open atmosphere, guests can get more public communication places outside the private space. The space is shared and dynamic.

We designed the hotel building as a small enclosed building community. The first floor is composed of transparent glass curtain walls, creating a broad vision and open atmosphere, which is mainly used as the public space of the hotel. The second and third floors are composed of eight small buildings of different heights. They are located on the large platform above the glass curtain wall, mainly the guest room space. The slightly cantilevered platform outline makes the building look like a small community floating in the air.

White profiled steel plates of three different specifications are used on the facade of the building, making the "suspended" building volume more lightweight. The small houses interspersed with several primary colors of bamboo and steel bring some natural warmth to the whole white and pure building. In addition, each room has its own small balcony, which retains the possibility of interacting with the surrounding environment of the site. The balcony decorated with random aluminum plate is modern and pure, adding a sense of movement and rhythm to the simple facade.

In terms of space organization of hotel buildings, we have separated several small houses from the traditional residential building model of low in the South and high in the north. When the orientation and height of the houses are broken and reorganized, not only each guest room has its own unique scale, but also the negative space between them naturally forms interesting activity spaces of different sizes and shapes.

Each small building is connected with each other through the outdoor corridor. Due to the different heights of each building, the walking route of the corridor is also changing from top to bottom. When going down to the platform, it is closer to the lively and lively outdoor square. When going up, it suddenly broadens its vision and can see the sea not far away. Guests get a dynamic space experience while walking. The overall spatial form of the building breaks the protection of privacy and creates an active sense of neighborhood. We believe that this is a possibility to realize the "shared community" of modern people. The space of "home" should not only be in the house, but will extend to more places, showing a variety of forms.

The interior design of the hotel is divided into two parts: public area and guest room. The lobby, coffee shop and bar on the first floor are not hard separated from each other, but a continuous flowing space. At the same time, the advantages of storey height and glass curtain wall are used to form an overall open and transparent public area. In the design of the resort hotel, the decorative language is also reduced as much as possible. Instead, natural elements such as flexible and changing light and shadow, the air by the sea, trees and so on become the protagonists of the space. The open and bright characteristics of the space are brought into full play to the greatest extent, and at the same time, the minimalist artistic style is also displayed.

In terms of the guest rooms designed for the resort hotel, the first floor is mainly a suite with a slightly larger area for family travel; Upstairs, there are small family rooms, which are divided into two types: the flat floor type of 26 ㎡ and the loft type of 36 ㎡. Under the condition of ensuring the basic use function, the indoor area is relatively reduced, leaving more area for the outdoor platform and shared space. The design of guest rooms adopts more natural materials such as wood, textured paint and cave stone, presenting an introverted and simple atmosphere. At the same time, in view of the humid climate at the seaside, anti-corrosion and moisture-proof treatment was carried out for wood veneers and other materials, and dehumidifiers were set in the guest rooms to ensure the comfort of guests and reflect the quality in the details. In addition, we have set up a shared living room facing the sea at the best position on the second floor platform, where guests from all rooms can rest and communicate.

Through the hotel architectural design, we have a new thinking on the scale of people and space. In addition to being a living space, the building can also provide an opportunity and possibility for strangers gathered here to re find and define the relationship between people. This design also breaks through the concept of conventional hotels and intends to explore the development mode of community hotels and shared hotels. The small guest room area encourages guests to go out of their own rooms and spend more time to experience the world outside the guest rooms - outdoor square, shared living room, corridor, downstairs coffee shop... All become places for common activities, so that people can realize "unlimited" life in limited space.
